Hurrah - there will be accountability in Washington, DC and the path to oligarchy has been, at least temporarily, blocked. If the Democrats want to cement their majorities in the House and expand the reach of the party, they need to respect the grassroots and party building. In IL-6, Tammy Duckworth's defeat should be a lesson learned for Durbin and Emanuel that politics is local and that annointing a candidate whose appeal works by the numbers does not work. Frankly, in 2004 Christine Cegelis, the grassroots candidate Durbin and Emanuel bumped off this time around, got close to the percentage of votes that Tammy Duckworth got this time around and that was against incumbent Henry Hyde and on a shoe string budget. So the national folks (who mostly happen to be Illinois democrats who live in an ugean stable of corruption at home that gives pause to Speaker Pelosi's call for ethics in Washington) made a bad call in Illinois 6th and wasted a lot of resources and set back the democratic party in DuPage County. They should be so proud.
